somehow the only proof i have that i spent a long weekend seeing meadville again. it was nice to have *something* done and on the wall alongside some great work from fellow alums. this painting was made during the post-Helene mania, and it was nice to add some finishing touches and ship it off to show so close to the one year anniversary.

biggest reason for making the pilgrimage was to see @hatch_hollow’s new space, and Heather Fish is still my hero.

“Match Pace” will live on in @midamericacollegeartassoc’s digital exhibition, “Abstract Borders | Reflections on Belonging.” The drawings pictured were completed in one minute in front of a live audience, based on user-submitted photos, to consider the implications of artificial intelligence (AI) art generators. It opens via Zoom on September 15th, with a juror’s talk by Vivian Zavataro!

First solo show! Read more about it below if you’d like. The unabbreviated version will be available once the exhibition opens.

Match Pace grapples with the pressure Artificial Intelligence (AI) art generators place on emerging creatives. What’s a painter, illustrator, sculptor, etc. to do if machines can replace them? In this exhibition, I attempt to compete with such applications by rendering drawings of submitted photographs in *one minute*. Instead of requiring payment I will provide opportunities to “pay as you wish.” This show is my attempt to highlight human labor threatened by AI and ask visitors to consider how this parallels other careers. Maybe a robot can do it, but is that what we want?
